The AcuDetox program is an acupuncture-based protocol that is used to treat alcoholism, substance abuse, and chemical dependency with 5 ear (auricular) acupuncture points that are manually stimulated with needle insertion.  It is offered as a professional development for licensed professionals in the fields of healthcare and social work. The treatment works by releasing natural chemicals in the body that ease the symptoms of withdrawal and help fight addiction.

 

The Following Professionals are eligible for training as an AcuDetox specialist:

  • Licensed Vocational Nurses
  • Licensed Registered Nurses
  • Licensed Social Workers
  • Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Licensed Psychologists
  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors

The program is approved by the Texas medical Board. Upon completion, individuals may apply for certification through the Texas Medical Board for a fee of $52. Additional information concerning maintaining compliance with state and federal AcuDetox regulations can be found here and here

 

The 70-hour program consists of:

  • 30 hours of online instruction, which can be completed any time before the:
  • 40 hours of hands-on clinical training, which takes place over two weekends. Available at the Austin Campus only.

  • Auricular Acupuncture Theory
  • Auricular Acupuncture Points
  • Auricular Acupuncture Treatment Protocols
  • Auricular Acupuncture Addiction & Detoxification Treatments
  • AcuDetox Practice Management Ethics
  • Clean Needle Technique
  • Hands-on Acupuncture Practice
  • Review & Exam
